The importance of listening to the “little voice”

22 December, 2006 (14:22) | General | By: Phil Ayres

Today, I have been exchanging e-mails with a myfantasyball visitor. He has been posing a number of dilemmas … who do I play at RB? Who do I play at QB in my championship? At this point, you have to go with your guy! That is all there is to it. You have obviously done well enough to make it to the championship of your league. You have done something - ok, a lot - right. So, go with it. Listen to the little voice inside that says “play Rattay over Hasselback”. Think about it… if you don’t listen to the little voice and you blow the game, you will be kicking your ass until next September. So, go with your instincts. Hell, ignore the pundits and the idiots on Yahoo on Sunday at 11:30. They don’t know what they are talking about most of the time anyway. Take the injury reports. Absorb them. And, react. In reality, in many areas, your guess is as good as anyone else’s. So, listen to YOU and be confident in your decision. Best of luck on a fantasy championship.

Lowdown on Thursday, Saturday and some sleepers

21 December, 2006 (07:01) | General | By: Phil Ayres

Thursday’s match up should be somewhat interesting. Although I am very bearish on the Minnesota offense, I would play Chester Taylor. He is a good play each and every week. Also, for the Green Bay Packers, I would play Brett Favre. At this point this season, you’re in your fantasy football playoffs, though. Therefore, to get to this point likely you have done your homework. You have looked at tons of fantasy football rankings. And, you have a quarterback better than Favre. Of course, go with him.

For the Saturday game, I do not like Kansas City’s chances in this game. The only Kansas City player I would consider playing would be Larry Johnson. He is a consistent fantasy option each and every week. Also, I would look at playing Tony Gonzalez. Trent Green will likely have a very bad week. The Oakland Raiders pass defense is tough. In fact, is one the toughest pass defenses in the NFL. So, keep Trent Green on your bench, along with Eddie Kennison and the Kansas City receivers.

As for the sleepers for the week, I would look to the Chicago Bears. Keep Thomas Jones on your bench. He is way too injury ridden at this point. Although he has taken some flack throughout the course of the season, look for Rex Grossman to have a decent game, along with Cedric Benson. Look for the Bears to bench Thomas Jones quite a bit in order to get him healthy and rested up for the playoffs. Therefore, Cedric Benson will likely get more touches than normal.

Week 15 Shout Outs and reminiscing about the past

18 December, 2006 (05:49) | General | By: Phil Ayres

Can you believe it? Well, of course you can. Ladainian Tomlinson continued his domination yet again yesterday.

This is a very rare year. We are seeing three of the greatest performances of all time. Ladainian Thomas and is putting up the greatest year in the history of the NFL for running back. Meanwhile, with the exception of a slight guffaw yesterday, Drew Brees is putting up one of the greatest years in the history of the quarterback position. At the same time, the Chicago defense is putting up one of the greatest years in the history of the NFL.

I do think that it is ironic that, this year, I’m in my fantasy championship. I have Drew Brees, and I will be playing against a guy that has L.T.. Kind of funny, I guess. But, I would venture to say that almost every single person who has L.T. is in their fantasy championship. Somewhat unfortunate for those that don’t. Nonetheless, it has been fun to observe.

I would like to give a shout out to Jeff Garcia. Another decent performance yesterday. With nine TDs on the season, he just finds a way to continue to get the job done. Kudos.

And how about those Tennessee Titans? Being a Titans fan, I’m extremely excited. And, as a bonus, if you had the Tennessee defense yesterday, likely, you won your game.

There are a lot of great performances going on right now in the NFL. My hats off to a Maurice Jones-Drew. He has five touchdowns in the last three weeks. Something tells me that the complexion of the fantasy draft board will change next year.

It is always fun to look back and see how things have changed over the years. For example, I do Yahoo fantasy football. I have been doing Yahoo for many years now. For those of you who do not do Yahoo, Yahoo has a trophy room where you can look back and see how your fantasy teams have performed over time. I went to my trophy room the other day and looked back at some of my past teams. I laughed when I went back to 1999 and saw some of the folks that out of my team back then. I am sure that seven years from now, I will be laughing about the same thing when I see my team today.

What happened to Drew Brees, today?

207 yds … and an INT … no TDs???? Does the loss of Joe Horn mean that for him????

Hot Fantasy Football Play-Off Tips and Advice

Alright, it is play-off time, and you are fine-tuning that line-up for the final push. Here are a few folks that you need to consider picking up:

1. Nate Burleson - Darrell Jackson is hurt. Burleson will be asked to step up and take over, in his absence. He will get quite a few touches.
2. Arlen Harris - Interesting Pick-up. Harris is somewhat questionable. But, with Kevin Jones out for the season, he is the go-to guy in Detroit. Jones has had a decent season. Though I don’t expect the same numbers from Harris, he will get quite a few touches.
3. Ben Watson - Brady’s TE. He has become Brady’s primary target, and he is getting a lot of looks. He is available in many leagues.
4. Vernon Davis - He is back and healthy. He is growing in his level of importance in San Fran. Keep an eye on him. Unless you already have a great TE, he could be a good pick-up for you.
5. Vernand Morrency - Ahman Green’s alternative. He is starting to get quite a few more touches. With the number of injuries in the NFL, right now, he could be a good pick-up for you.

Sleeper TEs to get you to the fantasy football championship

6 December, 2006 (21:52) | General | By: Phil Ayres

At least from my experience, tight end is a position that often gets overlooked by fantasy football owners. Why? Well, I suppose it has something to do with the fact that-on average-tight ends do not tend to put up as many points as other offensive players.

However, as you are coming down to the playoffs, every little point matters more and more. Therefore, getting the most out of your tight ends is critical. I reviewed the schedules of each team in NFL, and considered the implications on the tight ends for those respective teams.

The following is a list of three tight ends that are not normally considered to be TE elites in the NFL that you should be looking to start going into the final stretch, and why:

1. Alge Crumpler – as everyone knows, Crumpler has become the main target of cornerback Michael Vick, in Atlanta. With 39 receptions and 588 yards, Crumpler is have a decent season. Crumpler has decent matchups in the next few weeks (Tampa Bay, Dallas, and Carolina). However, it is unlikely that Crumpler is available under waiver wire. If your league is like most leagues, the trade deadline has already passed. Therefore, you are relegated to free agents. Therefore, the next two recommendations may be a possibility for you-if you are still in need of a tight end.
2. L.J. Smith – Although he will be on the road in Washington, Dallas, and New York, you have to look at the individual match-ups. And, if you do, you will find that these are highly favorable match-ups for a TE. Think about L.J..
3. Bubba Franks – So far the season Bubba Franks has been extremely quiet. He only has 178 yards in zero touchdowns. However, that could change the next few weeks. As I have emphasized with the other TEs, I would look at the individual match ups. And, Franks will be facing favorable matchups in San Francisco, Detroit, and Minnesota.

Look, the tight end position is not typically a position to get too excited about fantasy. However, it is a great opportunity to score some points that you may desperately need in the end to win a fantasy championship.

Bring on the Fantasy Football Play-offs

5 December, 2006 (13:41) | Fantasy Football, General | By: Phil Ayres

We have not used this blog as we had intended to this season. As the season progressed, we got more into the game analysis. And, unfortunately, we focused less on the blog. Of course, this was done in order to give our user the best possible product. However, we are going to renew our focus to communicate on the blog.

I feel that it is important that we give our candid thoughts about the NFL. And, we believe it is important that we have a daily dialogue with the customer. Our analysis products do not allow us the opportunity to communicate directly with the customer. Of course, I want to maintain the same edgy, candid analysis of the NFL. However, if you have any comments about MyFantasyBall (whether good or bad), I urge you to document those comments here.

Going into the playoffs, I am psyched about my fantasy team. And, I hope that you are too. In order to put together my All-Star team, I utilized the MyFantasyBall draft destroyer. That’s right. The only thing I use to draft my championship (hopefully) team was the MyFantasyBall draft destroyer program that is available free here on MyFantasyBall.com.

Just to give you the rundown:
• QB Drew Brees, Bulger
• RBs Steven Jackson, Kevin Jones, Marion Barber, Willis McGahee
• WRs T.O., T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Lavernaeus Coles, Reche Caldwell, Joe Horn
• TE Tony Gonzalez

And when you look at that lineup, I know what you’re thinking…. No wonder you are in first place. Anyway, needless to say, I am really excited about the playoffs.

I want this blog to become more of a one-on-one chat with the President of MyFantasyBall. As we engage in our weekly review of the NFL, I will be offering candy commentary on what is going on in the NFL. Plus, as always, we welcome your input. Please, do not hesitate to comment about our products. We know-at this point-MyFantasyBall is not perfect. But we are constantly seeking perfection. Therefore, unless profane, nothing in this blog will be censored. Feel free to ask advice about your fantasy team. If you have advice that you like to see discussed on the blog, please e-mail me at blog@MyFantasyBall.com. Otherwise, I just might discuss it in a post. Thanks for checking the blog!!!
