Lovie going to the Big D?

24 January, 2007 (05:42) | Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, General | By: Phil Ayres

Alright, rumors have now surfacing that Dallas is targeting Lovie Smith for the job in Dallas. Look, it is just not going to happen. Lovie would be dumb to leave his situation in Dallas to go play with Jerry’s kids. If he wants more money, now, certainly, he can negotiate a more lucrative deal.

At this point, I think that Dallas would be well-advised to go after Jim Mora. That would be a good move for them.

Parcells is out … a.k.a. should never have been there to begin with

22 January, 2007 (12:55) | Dallas Cowboys, General | By: Phil Ayres

Let’s rewind the clock… a Hall of Fame coach goes back and coaches a Jerry Jones team. Hmmmmm??? I never imagined why he would agree to do it (other than the money was pretty good). But, Parcells just never was Parcells in the Big D. It is like he didn’t give a shit. You go back and talk to his players from the Jets, Pats, or Giants days … and they are like “who the hell is this guy?”… hugging on players…. not chewing ass.

In retrospect, though, Dallas is a little bit ahead of where they were in the Dave Campo era… maybe. Hey, they can always go hire Denny Green. Right? Remember, Jerry said that it was between Parcells and the eternally shitty, Denny Green. And, they were equally qualified. (though I can’t see it - since Parcells will go to Canton and … well… Denny Green couldn’t coach my high school’s team). So, problem solved, right Jere, you loser? Hire Denny, and watch your team go further into the shitter. And, remember the lesson from the Yankees, with all the money in the world, you can’t buy heart.

I can’t believe the Bears pulled it off

22 January, 2007 (06:25) | Indianapolis Colts, Chicago Bears | By: Phil Ayres

Well, they limped through the latter part of the season… getting a win wherever and however they could (Thank God for the defense, right?). And, they were led by a sub-par QB. And, they are going to the Super Bowl. Congratulations.

However, I am not a Bears fan. I don’t know… there is something about being planted in the city of a team where everyone is completely obsessed with tha team (like they are here in Chicago abou the Bears). OK, I am a native Nashville guy. Not a Chicago guy. So, I am kinda’ (because of the people around me) getting where I hate the Bears. These people have a shitty-ass QB, and they think they are incredible. I experienced the same thing when I lived in Jacksonville. I became the biggest Brunell hater on the block. And, I have mocked Fred Taylor and his injuries and Jimmy Smith and his cocaine use many times over.

Anyway, I am very glad (as a Vols fan) to see Peyton go to the Super Bowl. I believe that he will stomp the shit out of the Bears. Well, maybe not. It will be a good, close game. Peyton will prevail 27-21, and he will be named MVP. And, he will be going to Disneyworld. Then, he will officially be on every single commercial on television. Got to admit. Peyton’s over-exposure is completely annoying. I am tired of constantly seeing him on TV.

Atlanta rides the Vick train all the way to the shitter.

19 January, 2007 (09:16) | General | By: Phil Ayres

So, it looks like Vick is staying put. Can we all agree that this guy is not any damn good as a quarterback in the NFL. Face facts. They had the worst passing offense in the NFL, this year. I would say that passing is a pretty important skill for any QB. But, yet, they are not carting his ass off to Alaska.

I know what you are saying …. “but, he is such an incredible athlete. His skills are intangible.” Bullshit. The people like you who are saying this were the same ones that said - “but, we are in a new economy. Old economy rules don’t apply” … just before the tech bubble crashed. Atlanta will only get worse. And, so will Dallas as long as T.O. is there. Looks like the nansy pansy is finally having surgery on the fingers of the hand that he did not use to catch the damn football all season. He is a loser. And, anyone in Dallas who thinks differently …. well, they are losers, too. And, they deserve each other.

Who is going to the Super Bowl? I know the answers….

18 January, 2007 (16:27) | General | By: Phil Ayres

Alright, I’ll just go and get it out the way. The Colts and the Saints will be in the Super Bowl. Alright, for the rest of this post… below … you’ll find my justification.

As far as the Patriots-Colts, really, this game is a toss up (as far as I’m concerned). It is a tough decision to go against Tom Brady in the postseason. After all, he is 12-1. On the other hand, I do not feel that the Patriots are playing with the luster that they have played with in past postseasons. He lost an amazing receiver in Deion Branch. And, he has lost some other key players in skill positions, of course.

As far as the Colts, I know… I know… they lost Edgerrin James. And, I admit that I really don’t have a good justification for my decision to go with the Colts. However, I just believe that good fortune will be with Peyton Manning this time. Really, are we not all tired of seeing this match up… for god sakes, isn’t he entitled to win one?

As far as the Bears and the Saints, as you would expect, my justification is partly Rex Grossman. The guy is Jekyll and Hyde. Except his version of Jekyll isn’t even really that good. So, even if anyone in between Jekyll and Hyde shows up this weekend, the Bears are absolutely screwed. Bottom line, I believe that the Bears will lose. It will be a tight game. But, they will lose. I believe that Brees, Bush, and company will have an excellent day against a (in my opinion) very overrated Bears defense.

Well, that is how I see these games. I would love to hear your comments.

For Once…

I agree with Phil (though since he can fire me, I might want to more often, heh heh…). Anyway, I’m sick of hearing about how New Orleans is feeling all fuzzy inside because the Saints no longer suck. The Bears have the most wins of anyone left in the playoffs. And you know what? It’s pretty goddamn cold here. When I walk outside, it’s still cold. I walk into my apartment, it’s cold. People are bitching about Rex Grossman, and I think tonight somebody knocked over a Sharks Fish & Chicken about a block away from my apartment. We’ve got crime here too, cry me a river. A good football team doesn’t cure everything. Now, if New Orleans had negotiated a deal with FEMA that made aid proportionate to the 2006/7 Saints wins, we’d be talking. Except nobody in their right mind would have done that, because you had lost all respect for the franchise and owner Tom Benson. Remember him? Yeah. You wanted him to sell the team before Katrina. Nobody was a Saints fan, and the few of you that were had entertained thoughts of a Lionsesque walkout during games, if you didn’t actually pull one off. You know why I don’t know? Because until this year, nobody cared about the Saints. It’s great that they’re doing well, and the people there are in better spirits, it really is. Many of the players have done great things for the community, and if I hadn’t been beaten over the head with multi-million dollar athletes swinging a hammer during NFL Primetime already, I might care. Really, Drew Brees can work a hot glue gun and throw a football? Get this man a candy bar!

New Orleans can trace their good fortunes directly to the Texans and Charlie Casserly. Passing on Reggie Bush is quite possibly the dumbest draft day move ever. Sure, the whole Bowie / Jordan thing was pretty bad, but there was a need at center for the Blazers, he played well when healthy, and nobody saw Jordan becoming Jordan. As for Reggie Bush, everyone saw this coming. When you hear names like “Barry Sanders” being thrown around in comparison, don’t take a shitty, overrated defensive end. You know who “Super Mario” played with in Raleigh? Manny Lawson, a very good DE / LB who would have been very available 10 spots later. AND he was ranked as a better prospect through half of the 2005 season. Oops!

And let’s not forget, Benson is still Scrooge. Or that the Superdome isn’t a viable long-term solution as a stadium. Oh, and the Saints are the 27th (of 32) most valuable franchise in football. All these things lend themselves to the idea that the Saints could end up moving. When that happens, I hope the people have taught themselves how to swing a hammer, or work a hot glue gun. There won’t always be Saints there to help.

The Saints’ success doesn’t mean SHIT for the people of New Orleans

14 January, 2007 (07:54) | General | By: Phil Ayres

I completely agree with this guy. Look, the Saints’ winning some football games isn’t going to do one damn thing for the people of New Orleans. I dread the stories. I dread the media focus. I hope they lose next week… before that becomes the story - rather than football.

Alright, here is another schmuck… Barry Bonds

12 January, 2007 (09:48) | General | By: Phil Ayres

So, now, he has tested positive for amphetamines. This presents a huge dilemma for Hall of Fame voters. How do you take the biggest home run hitter of all-time and not put him in the Hall. Easy. He is a cheat. Is Pete Rose in the Hall? No. And, what Pete did is not NEAR as bad as how Barry Bonds has disgraced the game over the years. I don’t care if he hits 800 home runs. He did it with an unfair advantage and he should NOT be in the HofF. He should be in jail. He is a felon - along with being the most hated player of all-time.

T.O. … what a schmuck

10 January, 2007 (07:09) | General | By: Phil Ayres

So, now T.O. has fired his publicist. Because, it is his publicist that is all f#$##d up. Surely, his bad public image is not the fault of a guy who whines constantly, tried to kill himself, feuds with media and coaches, and who can’t catch anything. Because, it wouldn’t be his fault, right? T.O. … congratulations, you are the schmuck of the year. Or, maybe, that award should go to Dallas for bringing him onboard keeping him - and allowing him to serve as a distraction that will, ultimately, destroy the organization.

My Nightmare Scenario National Championship

Last night, I went to bed - hoping that, somehow, Ohio state would recover from that 41-14 deficit in the 4th Quarter. But, alas, I woke and the Gators are the National Champions.

I can’t even muster up a congratulations … seeing that my antipathy for the Gators runs so deep.

Nevertheless, I do commend them on obtaining an excellent coach. And, it does make me wonder how long we must languish in mediocrity with Fulmer. Because, as long as he is there, the Vols will never be better than a 3-loss team, ever again. My only hope, now, is that Urban Meyer will have another good season and go to the NFL. Oh, how I dread this day….

Well, Grafton, I guess this removes any discussion about whether Florida should have even been in that game.
