Early Game Updates
Jets RB Thomas Jones has wasted no time getting on the board for the Jets with a short touchdown run just 3 minutes into the game. Where has this come from? Jones had the unenviable task of replacing Curtis Martin in NY, but seems to have filled the role nicely in much the same way–he’s a consummate professional and a great guy to have (both in the locker room and on a fantasy team).
Dolphins QB Chad Pennington is also on the board early against a suddenly mediocre (hey, it’s a step up for them) 49er squad. With no Frank Gore, if the Dolphins get another early score this one could get out of hand quickly, which is good news for Pennington / Ronnie Brown / Ricky Williams owners.
Dominic Rhodes has found the end zone as well, to the surprise of nobody. Update: Now he has two, the second giving the Colts the lead in the fourth quarter.
On the other hand, David Garrard has a passing touchdown. He’s making me look bad for saying he shouldn’t be played today, but I wouldn’t be counting on Dennis Northcutt to keep the Jags passing offense afloat (knock on wood…)
The Rams have scored on a pass to Torry Holt, who surprisingly is still alive. It’s just his third TD this year.
Bengals QB Ryan Fitzpatrick has accounted for two early touchdowns against the Redskins. In related news, someone check the weather in Hell.
WR Andre Johnson has 5 catches for 129 yards and a touchdown. There are almost 8 minutes left in the first half. He. Is. Good.
Don’t look now, but JP Losman is being surprisingly adequate. After a rough start he’s got two touchdowns.
Update: And his fumble with less than two minutes left in the fourth is returned for a touchdown, giving the Jets the lead when it looked like the Bills could run the clock out. That’s the JP I know (though one has to ask why they weren’t running the ball with Marshawn Lynch or Fred Jackson, who have been strong all game long).
Update Number Two: Losman throws an INT, and this will about do it. Ha, remember when some numbskull writer said he was “surprisingly adequate”? Moron…
Bucs WR Antonio Bryant snuck in a touchdown when nobody was looking, showing that he’s not the attention seeking mouth off that Emmitt said he was. Then again, Emmitt says a lot of things that nobody understands:
-”If you want to stay perfect, you cannot go undefeated with a blemish on your record.”
-(On the Cowboys being an elite team, in the same league with the Colts / Pats): “The Dallas Cowboys are not far behind. They are a distant third. They’re close but they’re not quite there yet.”
-And my favorite (referencing Jimmy Valvano)…”Don’t quit. Don’t even quit.”
And back to the updates!
Dallas Clark is having a big game today, with 8 catches and a touchdown. Remember when he was supposed to be a top 5 fantasy tight end? Me neither.
You know who should be on everyone’s radar for next season? Kevin Smith. He had a great college career, then gets dumped into Detroit. They have to be better next season (by default), and I think Smith could be a big part of that if he gets even a decent offensive line. He’s averaging 4.7 ypc today, so of course that means stud QB Dan Orlovsky has chucked it 21 times.
Update: Smith now has a touchdown run. You’re welcome for the heads up, Mr. Marinelli.
Steven Jackson has scored a touchdown as well. Nice to see he finally realized he’s still a professional football player. If you drafted Dallas Clark and Jackson, you probably felt okay about your team in August. Of course, you’re also probably reading this while the guys that picked up John Carlson and Peyton Hillis play in the championship.
LT has scored a touchdown too. Tomlinson…Clark…Jackson…Pennington…Retro week in fantasy football. It’s like they made it a point all season long to screw over any owner that drafted them, then they twist the knife in week 15. Thanks, asshats.
Jags RB Maurice Jones-Drew gets in on the action and finally scores a touchdown in response to WR Greg Jennings scoring for the Packers. Like I said before, he’s the only offense they have left. It was bound to happen eventually.
For anyone watching the Bills / Jets game: Am I the only one that has noticed they keep playing the TI song that starts with MIA singing “no one on the corner has swagger like us, swagger like us, swagger swagger like us…” over and over? The song is repetitive enough as it is, I don’t need to hear the intro 10 times in 3 hours. Sweet Jebus.
